Speaking of squares…

When you visit the D-d homepage, you are greeted with a bunch of squares that each represents a local artist. At the bottom of the page are more homeless squares looking for artists to contribute to the site. They are sad and lonely squares, so surely you can give them a warm loving home with your art. Here at Dirty delicious Studios, we are local artists who want to give other artists the chance to display their work and represent themselves. We don’t charge any money, there are no fees to pay, and we will never, ever take any ownership of any content that appears on the site. Your work belongs to you, period. Just think of us as friends who can help you make websites and get your work noticed.

Again, this site is open to any art of any kind of art that is original and made by local artists. We’re talking poetry, painting, literature, theater, interpretive dance, you name it. All you have to do is shoot us an email (info@dirty-delicious.com) so we can set up a time to meet you and talk about getting your art/videos/pictures posted. If you are a website whiz, you can even have complete control of your own space (and for those who don’t have html skillz, we’ll help make you a site to your liking).

Next up, it seems as if Black Swamp Jimbo is looking for some trouble. He is the first one to post on the official D-d Forums and looks like he is challenging Magnificon to some sort of intergalactic guitar battle. As we await Magnificon’s putrid response to BSJ’s empty rhetoric, be sure to check out the rest of the forums and sign up for an account so you can launch your own intergalactic challenge to the Great One.

Finally, we spent the weekend at D-d Studios working on our newest addition, which at the moment is classified S73 (military speak) so unfortunately the most we can show you are these unofficial spy pics. When the project is finished and in final form, only then can we invite you to view the final product. Maybe you could pry some more info out of us tonight at Mickey Finn’s open mic, maybe not. Either way, have a great day and see you all soon!

The Doctor is IN

Ola everyone, all of us here at the D-d Studio have been busy working overtime getting everything in place at the new digs. Our imaginations have otten the best of us and we’ve set out to build some epic new additions in the space - details to follow when we figure out what the heck we just built. Fortunately, it hasn’t been all work and no play this week - there are plenty of things going on around town that you should know about.

First off, we are excited to announce that The Cardiologist has graced us with one more song per album, giving us a little more insight into his laid back introspective sound. Of course the first question everyone has been asking us lately is ‘when can we hear the whole albums?!?!? Your answer below….

We are feverishly working on getting our past and future music releases available to buy on your favorite music store (iTunes, Rhapsody, Napster, etc…). We will start with The Cardiologist, who has already produced a few albums we can post immediately. We are also working on a mail-order setup if you want a physical CD, hopefully all of this will be launching asap, so be on the lookout for that.

We also got a chance to stop by Mickey Finns this past wednesday to see some friends perform at open mic, and they put on a great show. There were members of the Towne Choir and of course Lucian himself, along with cheap beer and great friends, so check it out sometime.

Finally, everyone around here downtown and at the secor studio is getting ready for the Media Mix put on by the Arts Commission of Greater Toledo. This is a great party that will definitely help support all of the artists in and around the Toledo area - so be sure to try and make it. In the meantime, have a great weekend and we’ll see you soon!

It’s Friday!

Hey everyone - just wanted to drop in and give you all a couple of updates from the D-d universe. First off, the response to Lucian’s show at Frankies last week is overwhelmingly great. The videos, mp3’s, and pictures are all getting great reviews and comments, and we can’t wait to do it again soon. We’re bugging Lucian to get out there with the Towne Choir asap so we’ll let you know when the next gig will be.

Also, we are proud to say that we started moving our gear into the new studio downtown (in the Secor Building) and should have things up and running soon. Of course it will take a few months to get everything tweaked and ready for the grand opening, but in the meantime we are excited to get back to recording music and making our art in a studio instead of a kitchen. A huge thanks to John and Jeremy from SGE Media in helping us get the space!

Finally, there is some new stuff on the site this weekend courtesy of the Finalists and KDK. The Finalists have released two more songs from their first EP Unicorns and Drugstores, one called Do It and another one After Hours. Also, KDK comes at us with some photos from his days living in Cali in a series called ‘99 Lies. Originally he stated that the site would be home only to new projects and pics, so he lied by about 9 years, but we’ll let it slip this one time.

As always, have a fun weekend and be sure to check out all the great local bands, artists, performances, and galleries in the area!

p.s. a big ‘thanks’ to lucian who is the very first to comment on this blog - thanks lucian :) …so who will be the second?? Just click here to get your very own screen name.

T is for Turbo

Just a quick note to remind everyone that the video/audio/pics are up from the Lucian Townes and the Towne Choir show at Frankies on Friday. Of course the D-d crew all had a great time and Lucian and his band sounded great. We were able to get a sound recording and video of the whole performance - and check out the great pics by our new friend LH. Click here to visit the site and enjoy!

Also, there has been an update over at the Magnificon site. He is introducing us to General Turboblade and his magnificent story of guitar prowess. Jump on over to check out the new song, also entitled General Turboblade.

Finally, we are planning on going to Brewed Awakenings this Wednesday, March 5th, to hang out with our friends at Patrick McGee’s open mic night. Brewed Awakenings is a really cool coffee shop located on the corner of Douglas and Central Ave. in Toledo. They have open mic night on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month starting at 8pm. Always a great time - see you there!

Ola Blog

First of all, welcome to the blog - this is the new home for all the news and pics and audio and announcements et cetera. And to start us off here are a few new additions to the site:

Have you found the State of the Union yet? The Cardiologist pleads you to keep searching.

DJ Kaizen has added ninja-type photoshop skills to his arsenal, and now his new creations grace the pages of his original music.

b. kovach is now beth kovach - the secrecy was our idea, not hers :) anyway, if you haven’t checked out beth’s original paintings and prints, they’ve been updated with their proper names and availability. Yes, some of those amazing works are actually available to own, so just let beth know and get one in your pad today! To be honest, the D-d crew will arm wrestle anybody who tries to get the Purple Haze print, we want it for the new studio.

So you’ve probably seen the new jukebox/player on the front page. You’ll need flash to use it, and if you have any feedback about the player or really anything ont he site, be sure to let us know - info@dirty-delicious.com.

Thanks for stopping by, and see you Friday at Frankies for The Late Great Lucian Townes!

Happy Presidents Day!

Thank you all for the wonderful reception and feedback we’ve been getting so far. The excitement just keeps building here at D-d as we have several special announcements to pass along to you. The Late Great Lucian Townes will be playing Friday February 29th at Frankie’s Inner City. Doors open at 7:30, with Lucian kicking off the fun around 8:30, be sure to stop by and show him some love. To celebrate, we have added a few more songs for you all to memorize before then. See you there!

Rumor around D-d headquarters is that The Cardiologist is currently in the lab stitching together a monster creation. However, before he sequestered himself, he left a cryptic message on his page. We’ll alert you as we learn more…

Meanwhile El Fezadente keeps constructing an ever more elaborate catacomb into his mind, be sure to check over there to see what he’s up to as well as the rest of the artists.

NKOTB

If you look on the homepage, you’ll notice two new artists have been added recently to the ’squares.’ There is photography from kdk, an artist from the toledo area, and artwork from our friend beth kovach, who is currently living in Chicago but is originally a findlay, ohio resident.

If you’re looking for some more music from The Late Great Lucian Townes, and the stats say you really do, then make sure you stop by his myspace page where he releases songs faster than we could ever keep up. We’re still trying to figure out when he sleeps.

In some rather exciting news in the realm of Magnificon, be sure to check soon for the opening odyssey in the saga of the Magnificent Savages when Magnificon releases his next epic, titled ‘General Turboblade.’ If you haven’t yet familiarized yourself with Magnificon Lore, jump over there now to brush up so you’re ready when General Turboblade tries to take down the great Magnificon.

Finally, the D-d crew wants to give props to two bands we saw recently at Howard’s Club H in Bowling Green, OH. While the crowd was a tad thin (single degree temps will do that in ohio), both The Argonauts and the Fear Nuttin’ Band had every single person on their feet all night and then spent time hanging out with us after their sets. Good times were had by all - definitely check them out when you get a chance.

Finally

This weekend we added two new artists, The Late Great Lucian Townes and Magnificon, and the Finalists finally got some songs put up, so be sure to check those out soon.

Also, there are new songs up for many of the other bands, and of course we are always interested getting any feedback you may have about the the artists, the site, or the studio by emailing us info@dirty-delicious.com.

A few of us from the D-d crew were able to go to Chicago this past weekend to meet up with some of our friends who were interested in posting their literature, video, and painting works here on the new website. While enjoying our stay in the city, we had a chance to go to the phenomenal DJ Shadow and Cut Chemist show at Park West where they performed their live all-45 album The Hard Sell (perfectly opened by Kid Koala). We had the best time in Chicago and can’t wait to introduce you to the great work from our friends, so check back soon for more new artists in formats other than music and enjoy this pic from the show.

Moving in

Well, welcome to the news page. As you can see, there isn’t much here yet. If you don’t mind, check out the artists while we get things moved in and acquainted. By then, there will be more news than you can shake a mailbox at. Anyway, thanks for checking, it’s the thought that counts.
